Matt Aschbrenner, 16 year Nascar Crew Member joined us on Racing Routes with Hamm 7:00 PM Monday February 22, 2021.  Matt was born and raised in Waterloo Iowa and wanted to become a doctor,  He went to a race in Michigan, came home, watched Days of Thunder 3x in a row, and DUMPED chemistry that Monday morning.  Hear Matt's story of moving to North Carolina and becoming a Daddy to 2 boys.  This his Racing Routes; Roots.

• 16 years working in NASCAR
— 5 team uniform changes: Dave Marcis, Hendrick Motorsports, Red Bull Racing, Randy Moss Motorsports, and Joe Gibbs Racing. 
— did everything on the car at some point EXCEPT painting 
— was responsible for 2 rule changes in the book
— traveled on the early crew
— changed front tires 14 of the 16 yrs
— known for making sound effects in the garage area and for keeping food in my shirt pocket. 
— lots of poles, lots of wins, 3 championship rings (1 in each top series), and I think 4 owner championships at Gibbs. 
• parents are still married, and living in NE Iowa. Grandma is kickin too....and she still drives at age 89.  
• my younger brother lives in IN with his family. He was in racing also and won the championship with SHR, then he pulled a Rowdy Burns and became a farmer
• I’ve been in Statesville since 2011. 
• l have 10ac east of town and I can see the stars at night. 
• love hiking in our mountains and watching the waterfalls 
• love going to the Caribbean
